June 14, 2019

LendingClub surveyed more than 2,700 small business owners with our partner, Guidant Financial, to discover how aspiring small business owners are pursuing their small business dreams.

Key findings include:

  • More baby boomers aspire to open their own businesses this year at 51 percent, while fewer millennials do at 19 percent—a 28 percent decrease from last year
  • Aspiring entrepreneurs expressed more moderate levels of confidence in the state of small business this year, with the share of those answering nine or 10 (10 being the most confident) dropping 13 percent
  • 37 percent of aspiring entrepreneurs are motivated to be their own boss compared to 26 percent of current entrepreneurs
